still waiting, I get a bit confused as some people count the day that you put them in the incubator as day 1 others count the next day as day 1. So it is 21 days either today or tomorrow. Will candle a couple tonight. Haven't done it for 3 nights, they were all kicking and moving then, will keep in touch and post pics when they hatch

just a reminder if you don't allready know, there is to be no photo's posted on the forum. to post photo's simply just go to the forum called forum photo gallery and just follow the steps on how to get your photo's up in the forum photo gallery.

Debbilee, you should start the day after you set the eggs, but it won't matter that much. Look forward to receiving the Photo's please send them to admin@peacocksaustralia.com Have you had a look at the Forum Gallery? we also run a Photo Competition with a Prize.

Thanks

STILL WAITING, candled them last night and the good news is they all have chicks moving around inside so I guess it is just wait and see ;)

It is my first batch incubating so I guess things can't be expected to go by the book, as long as they stay alive everything must be good

Debbie

Debdilee, Regarding your question re the counting of the days --- I set at 9.00am and 9.00 am the next day is day 1. However I have a strain of Rhode Isl. Reds that always hatch on day 20, and some Australorps that hatch on day 22.

After I set I do not touch that batch of eggs till day 8 when I candle them all and discard the clears ---- then late on day 18 I candle again and place the still active eggs in the hatching trays, this way it does not matter if they are a bit early as I'm ready for them. Once hatching starts the majority will hatch within 24 hours of one another and at that stage if there are any eggs left unhatched I will leave for another 24hours and then discard any eggs yet hatched, which are normally dead in shell,or struggling to get out and you would not want to breed from these anyhow.
The birds hatched in the last 24 hours tend not to be strong birds.

This is only my system others disagree or have other methods.Hope this is off some help,
Regards,
Snowball :-D :-D :-D

It is good advise particularly don't handle the eggs to offen, infact you should only need to do this twice during incubation. This is particularly important when the eggs are in the final stage ie.. day 20.

Thanks

We lost one, it had a deformed leg, not noticed until the rest were getting around easily. Not really deformed, I think it was broken. I put it down as the others were dragging it around by its leg and it was crying out all the time
