If I only incubate 24 eggs to start with....is it possible to put more in the incubator a week later?

Will that affect the first lot if I put more in at a later date conf665

You could but its risky and a lot of trouble. I find you want to keep it under lockdown as much as possible. Two batches will mean you'll be taking the lid off more, which affects the temp and humidity too much. Also when those little clumsy chicks hatch they will be running around and bashing into the other developing eggs. Not to mention the the egg juice they spread around the place, you don't want that festering for another week around the second batch. Have done this before but never again [smilie=a_doh.gif]

All good points there Dan [smilie=a_goodjobson.gif]

Didn't have my thinking hat on when I asked that question, did I

Well, looks like I'll just have to save up 48 eggs & do them all at once :-D

At least it gives you some time to gather some eggs ;) What breed will you be hatching Chicka-Dee?

All my girls are crossed with my Clyde who is a Speckled Sussex, so I have Isa Browns, Commercial Austalorps & Leghorn, Clara who is a Speckled Sussex as well & Priscilla who is a Dark Barred Plymouth Rock.

Should be an interesting mix if I get some of each to hatch out.

But then I could totally stuff it all up & get nothing conf665

Very nice and yes, interesting mix indeed!

The incubator sounds pretty straight forward and not much to do really. So unless Clyde is shooting blanks you should be fine ;)

Fingers crossed that bator arrives soon!

It's here, it's here, it's here wee. wee. woohoo4

I've got it all set up and running now :-D

So happy I feel giddy

The humidity seems like a bit of a hard thing to work out and how to refill the channels every 4 days is going to be a juggle as well. conf665

What happens when the water starts to reduce?, wouldn't the humidity go down?

How long does it take for the water to disappear?

What does everyone who has one of these set their humidity at? The book says 55% for the first 18 days then 60-65%.

Signed
Excited but Confused (but that's not hard  )
