one of my silly broody hens has desided to sit on the wrong eggs for half the day today(prolly bout 4 hours), i opened the gate so she could go and have a scratch and dirt bath which she does every day but today she went back to the wrong place, they have been under her for almost a week now and i was wondering if they will be ok still or will that be it for them?

4 hours on a warm day is nothing, have had successful hatches after a hen has been locked off the nest overnight  and most recently incubator turned off and temp dropped to 65F--and still had 60% hatch

the eggs core temperature would not have dropped significantly in that period during a day----good luck with them let us know how you get on, cheers p

hi kylie it depends wat you want to do with the eggs you can put them under another broody, but cant eat them and i wouldn't recomend putting them in a bator.

thanx for your replies.

thats makes me feel better, it was fairly warm here today.

I bought the eggs fertile so i could hatch them under my 2 broodys, i think the one that got off just got a little lost as shes stayed on them since i moved her back, i'll be moving her to our new brooder pen on the weekend so she'll have her own nest box and run.. :)

they are due to hatch on the 16th feb pjh, i'll let you know what happens
:-D

Like above, had the same thing happen and no problem at all. The eggs can get cold and still be ok, all depends on weather and how old eggs are. A week old should be ok. Good luck

Two months ago I moved a sitting hen with her box and eggs to my broody cage. She left the eggs and went back to the original cage - flew over the dividing fence (it was only 2 foot high). The eggs were hen-less from 9am to 5pm - it was at day 10. I assumed they would all die - nope. 8 out of 10 hatched :-D . Good luck
