I have recieved both Chicken & quail eggs through the post and had great success out of 2 dozen chicken eggs I got 20 chicks and out of 1 dozen quail eggs I got 11 chicks not bad hey

recently purchased 12 eggs, none developed at all. I contribute this to: 1. long trip. 2. heat from where eggs were collected.

I have had eggs from this person before and had hatches. I think there are many contributing factors but I (personally) wouldn't buy from too far away due to Aust post handling/heat factors.

Also remember folks that Aust post does not have a "fragile" postage add on. So even if they are marked fragile Aust post treat that parcel the same as all others.

If your eggs are really worth something to you (really expensive,rare,etc) than a courier may be a better option as they doe have "fragile" freighting.

I had never considered buy eggs off the internet until 3 months ago when I brought some fertile wyandotte eggs and I was delighted when they arrived in perfect condition & 10 of the 12 hatched.

# I highlighted the necessary word = this is one thing you should NEVER put on a carton of eggs being sent anywhere = I have found they tend to be rougher with these parcels

Yes your right anything I send marked "fragile" seems to arrive with damage to the box or worse the art work inside. It is better to write nothing on the package

Just had to add another success story for eggs sent in the post.

I think I broke every suggestion made here. Please note I am an ametuer. :oops:

Ordered 2 lots of half a dozen eggs. Both came to me express post during a heat wave and a postage strike over the Christmas period. One was marked fragile, handle with care, glass, etc, can't remember what the other had on it. Both were excellently packaged. No damp towel or anything but each egg was wrapped and then wrapped again in another box with shredded paper.

Stuck them under a broody Hen (first experience with this too). Poor girl sat all during the hot weather over Christmas, very attentive. Day 21 the chicks started to hatch. By the end of day 22 there were 9 fluffy chicks. (5 from one 6 pk and 4 from the other).

I wasn't expecting many so it was a pleasant surprise. Phoebe has continued to be a very good mother. Now all I have to do if figure out which one's are girls and which one's are boys.

How good is that, if it works it don't matter if you break the suggestions the end results are what matters. Good reading thank for sharing

If they start off fresh and fertile are packed well, not cooked, frozen, dropped or shaken about too much then treated with care in the incubator you'll hatch some chicks. The reality, however, is that on average eggs through the post will not hatch as well as ones that have not travelled.

The main advantage, as I see it, to getting eggs through the post is access to some new genetics without the risk of introducing internal or external parasites or various diseases.
