hello to all,

I have purchased a second hand R COM 20 and have set some duck eggs in it......

My question is....at what humidity should I set it?

It was suggested that since I am in QLD, I don't need as high a humidity as southern states....this may be true for coastal residents...but here on the Darling Downs it is drier (especially at the moment)....

So....I set the incubator to 65%....but the humidity never gets to that....the highest I have seen it achieve is about 53%.....so I am now starting to think that the machine may need a service.....

If the incubator is unable to get to a higher humidity, would it be OK if I sprayed the duck eggs with water?

keen for some help with this one :-?

Do you have the humidity pad? if you do does it need replacing? the sponge can deteriorate after 3-5 incubations and that may very well be your problem?

P.s 55% is not too bad but a little higher at hatching would be better

I was waiting for my new humidity pad to arrive in the mail as the old one was deteriorating......got the new one since my first post.....opened up the machine to replace the pad ....to find that the old pad was bone dry!

I have now worked out the little tube between the humidity pad chamber and the chamber where water is put in must be blocked :x ....and I can't work out how to unblock it (as I have precious duck eggs in it at the moment it will just have to wait).....

So...my temporary solution is to open up the machine daily and pour water straight onto the humidity pad.......it is keeping the machine at about 70%.....I have read that I should increase the humidity when it gets closer to hatching date.....so i think I may try spraying the eggs at this time....and then ...maybe i have to send the machine away for a service......

The fix is to use a tooth brush to clean the lime build up off the 2 tubes in the tank and the end cap at the end of the water tube

I have never had 80% at hatch mine is usually 65-70% and I have no problems about 90-95% hatch

try to clean the openings to the tubing last night.....didn't make any difference what so ever.....it was quite fiddly to get in there...so yes...it would seem the tube may be blocked......aaarrrgh!
hoping the shop can help me with this one...but it will have to wait until this lot of eggs have hatched.....
