Hi, I'm very new here. Does any one known a good effective way to stop a hen from brooding ASAP?
Cheers,

put her in a cage with a wire floor...and raise the cage so that the floor has air circulating under it.......ofcourse make sure she has adequate food and water whilst in this cage...she will need to be in cage the for a few days...maybe a week....some are more easy to break their broodiness than others.
The idea is that with the circulating air...she can't get comfortable and keep her "nest" warm....

if necessary put ice in water under the cage so the temperature is colder
aim of the game is to reduce the hens body temperature to stop her brooding

sidesplit.gif Fleur,

I could just imagine a nest box full of silkies, all squeezed in together. They are so cute though, how they fluff themselves up and spread themselves out, tails in the air with a little shrill when you lift the nest box lid. I have a silkie sitting on 7 eggs at the moment and another silkie sitting on any of the other girls eggs that are laid in the morning. She is encouraged to hop on out, she's not too difficult to break. The broody on the eggs wasnt going to give up her spot on the woodshavings easily so we've made use of her cluckiness.

in the past I have had to use just ice below some of my daughters Pekins
turkeys are the worst tho they refuse to get off eggs sometimes. I use just ice with the turkeys every time = they are 1 part bird 99 parts stubborn when it comes to sitting on eggs and some have reported their turkeys sitting until they starve!

the colder it is under the stubborn broodies the better

OH!! and Moss = welcome2.gif = I see this is your first post
