Mine went back into lay when she was raising her brood! She has had second thoughts about be broody this season and discourages the other girl when she sits for prolonged periods in the nesting box with a peck or two.

I have a friend whos hens do that also but mine is 100% focused of just being a mum

Cute photo. Last year I put Light sussex eggs under a broody barnie, only 2 hatched which were cockerals, and very large ones at that. At 6 months they were still trying to get under her even though they were the same size as her. I stuck my head in the chook house one evening and there she was on the ground with the 2 boys one on each side with their heads under her wings. It wasn't long after that that she chucked them out.

I have had the same with sussex at 6 months the 4 chicks still looked to mum at nights for warmth
