^ interesting, never really thought abt feather length probably coz Orps take so long to grow out and we grow all out as the bulk are for food

the only roo that got to her was a partridge wyndotte called 'randy'
we only hatched one egg from her as was for eating eggs not breeding eggs.
we got a gold colored hen. a good layer and a good broody.

glad to hear it was a girl [smilie=a_goodjobson.gif]

Is it possible to sex the week old silky bantams? I was told look for wing colour because the males are more colorful?

Silkie males have a larger (wider) comb right from the beginning

and the crest =

the males are more ‘Elvis’ like = swept back

the females have a pompom "Priscilla' type of crest

neither sex has a very big crest at 1 week old tho

Waiting until 6 to 8 weeks for the easier to sex breeds makes more sense to me as this would be the earliest you would be able to tell with a reasonable degree of certainty

I know most dont want to be feeding cockerels = but =

dont accidentally throw the baby out with the bath water =
You don’t want to accidentally be getting rid of what you want and finding out later!
