how to make a Candler

candling = if you don’t have a candling torch use a regular torch and make a Candler =

prick a small hole (use a kitchen skewer) thru one side of a box

in a darkened room with the box upside down so light only comes out the hole you have made = put the torch on the inside against this small hole so the light comes thru the hole

put the blunt end of the eggs against the hole on the outside of the box = look at the egg side on = if there is an embryo it will display as a darker area – you may even be able to see the veins

obviously if there is no development don’t put the egg/s back in the incubator or back under the broody

I say check at day 10 – as it is easy to see if development is happening if you have not candled before

# a candling torch = you just need a darkened room and put the torch against the blunt end of the egg and look side on as above
