NO incubator is over expensive to run as they never run 365 days

my home made bator ran for 15 months straight about 9yrs ago, hatching jap quail every week and then chickens and ducklings where needed [smilie=a_holycrap.gif] [smilie=a_holycrap.gif]

You are a commercial business obviously not a home breeder as I agree no incubator [non commercial] runs 365 days

Who are you agreeing with Jeff?

Watch out Red hide:

 You might be letting the ATO of your "hobby" (aka:business)

I would have to say if you're an 'enthusiast' that it could be possible to run your bator 24x7, especially if you have demand for your stock, without becoming a " commercial" business.

And the cost of that new Sportsman would require lots & lots of sales before break even is achieved.

Hey Red!Wink, wink, nudge, nudge

hahahahahaha funny stuff, i am not and never have been a commercial business mate, back when it ran for that length of time i was showing white leghorn bantams and breeding jap quail, hatching chickens to restock our egg layer birds for home and hatching muscovy ducks to try and I might say very succesfully establish a large mammoth muscovy line,

have a think about that Jeff, the ducks take 5 weeks alone to hatch a single batch, when ur hatching such a wide range of eggs space is lost when fitting them in the bator which means more batches.

the cost of a new sportsman is honestly irrelevent, the way this one has been full constantly i am considering either buying another one or the more likely outcome will be making my own upgraded sportsman that can set more. today i had to knock back a friend that wanted to set a heap of eggs because its chockers

That's a pretty antagonistic statement Jeff th_Noooo.gif

Please refrain from being antagonistic. We're a friendly bunch so just leave this one alone, please.

True!

I have to say if I could afford it, I'd run an incubator 24x7. I would love to breed chickens & build up a good line of Speckled Sussex, but at this stage I just have to go with what I can afford, which is 1 x SS rooster & 1x SS hen :-D

That's a shame! I was thinking of asking you to incubate some of my Sussex eggs
