I am very much a noob and just purchased an incubator but as nobody else has replied I will give you my thoughts from my own research,

I have friends with the Janoel (or the Janoel lookalikes) off Ebay who have found them excellent out of the box and hatched posted eggs with high hatch rates without any fiddling. I have read of others who have had to really play and fiddle to get theirs to run at the correct temps/humidity. Others have had issues with sourcing replacement parts fro the Ebay models.

There is a retailer in Melbourne who sells a Janoel model that is supported with spares and from what I have read is a sturdier (or more reliable) version of the Ebay models from China. It retails for approx $100 for than what you can get the Ebay models for.

My understanding from my research is either buy the supported model from the Melbourne retailer, or be prepared to spend some time setting up an Ebay model to get it right if it is not working correctly out of the box. People say they are not a 'noob' incubator for this reason. Many experiences users have managed to get their working well.

I have recently taken delivery of a Hovabator Genesis - Pricing was not hugely different to the 'retailed' Janoel, they have electronic temperature controllers (other Janoel models didn't) and came with everything I wanted. They have a strong following in the US where many users swear by them. The other major seller for me was that they can be easily adjusted to hatch reptiles - I am heavily into herpetology and will be looking to hatch some pythons next season so I got my quail and reptile incubator in one.

Down the track, once I have a little more experience, I may get an Ebay Janoel as a cheapie to set up and run if I want to hatch quail and reptiles simultaneously.

Hope that helps - There are a lot of details about the Janoel on the internet (and this site) if you do a bit of 'googling'.

Cheers,
Bart

I am unsure about the rules about posting business names here and don't want to attract a rap over the knuckles!.... :-D (Some forums are VERY strict about promoting companies)

I believe the same company also sells via Ebay so maybe take a look at Ebay and find a seller selling out of Melbourne and go from there.....From memory it was pretty easy to put 'two and two' together and get to their website. They make a point of mentioning that they support it in Australia and provide their parts so should be relatively easy to find......

....if it is ok to post here maybe somebody will post the sellers details, or let me know and I will gladly post it.

Cheers,
Bart

I just came across the details of the Australia seller of the Janoel - But it is the JN48 and not the JN12 that you were originally asking about. I have found the details already freely posted on this forum so I am guessing it is not against the rules.

The website address for the guys selling the Janoel JN48 is :

http://www.crazydealsonline.com.au/index.html

Hope this helps....

Bart

No Worries.....Hope that you find what you are looking for.

Incidently the price I paid for my Hova-bator Genesis was not much more than the Aus Retailer sells the Janoel for. If your budget extends to the Aus retailed Janoel you may also want to research the Genesis as a comparison. If you are looking at hatching quail (not sure if you are or not) the Genesis is currently shipping with a 120 egg quail tray as well as the normal chicken trays which made it a little better value again for me (as I was primarily looking for a quail incubator with the ability to hatch python eggs in the future).

Cheers,
Bart

I've now had 3 hatches using my JN12 - off eBay. I also had the 'turning wheel' fail (went brittle and cracked in half) during the second incubation period.
The first hatch was pretty good. Ara eggs posted from QLD. 7 chicks out, a couple were sticky & 3 dead in shell. The humidity doesn't reach the appropriate levels.
Unfortunately I lost all but 2 of the chicks to a marauding dog who destroyed the brooder.
Second hatch, with Marans eggs posted from WA, 5 chicks out, 4 DIS. Again, appears humidity was responsible for DIS issues.
Third hatch, leghorns posted from Nth NSW, 4 eggs incubated (rest went under a broody) 2 chicks out, 1 DIS.

So, OK rates for a backyarder, but I think I'll upgrade to an RCOM if I decide to keep going.
