I had the feeling that somewhere in the mid 20's centigrade would be a reasonable ambient temp. I doubt that a broody hen is going to do well if the temps are freezing cold or boiling hot, there are limits to what they can do, no matter how dedicated they are.
My next question would have to be about fertile eggs. How does an idiot like me know if a clutch of eggs is fertile? I realise that most people that sell fertile eggs are good, honest people but if my neighbour up the road hands me 6 fertile eggs and at day 7 there is no sign of life when the eggs are candled I am going to be asking myself...was it me or were the eggs infertile conf665 .

Yep looked it up it's around 22c

So, does this mean that incubating and brooding would be best done during the "milder" seasons (late Spring/early Summer and Autumn here on the Mid North Coast)? This would give the most even temperatures around that 20 degree C mark but night time temps would be lower.
