I don't have a problem with people crossing various varieties but it is a pity when birds of mixed ancestry are sold as purebreds. Generally "throwbacks" and "sports" are just recessive genes emerging from impure birds.
I noticed that this commercial breeder in the Melbourne area sells crosbred Khaki Campbells: http://www.wagnerspoultry.com.au/stock.htm
I think they are crossed with Pekin but don't know why.

No not correct a "sport" is not a result from cross breeding or in pure birds its a genetic glitch in a pure bred bird and is a rare natural one. There are a few examples such as the lutino black cockatoo in the wild and the white tiger/lion ect.... a "throwback" is very different to a "sport" not even similar

I thought the obvious inference from my use of parenthesis and the word "generally"was that I was stating that most often what are called "sports" and "throwbacks" are in reality simply the expression of recessive genes. I agree with your definition of the term "sport".
I should be very particular to express myself more precisely in future.

ETA. Ooops wrong word sorry. I should have said "quotation marks" not "parenthesis". Can I get away with that?

"generally" is not accurate and we like to be here :-D my correction to your post which you seem sensitive about is a "sport" is not the result of "impure birds" as you put it but 90% the result of line or inbreeding and a "genetic glitch" for want of a better word happens but it can happen in totally unrelated pairing. I am not one to bundle all these into one catagory of "impure" is not right or correct. Sorry to upset you but we all learn new things every day.
