Thanx guys!!
I still need to work on the lacing in the ducks. The Drake are coming out bloody NICE!.That's why I need a drake off this breeder way down south,so I can work on my duck (lacing) line.
To bring your guys up to speed,Here is a pic of one of the ducks I'm holding on to.She's about 3 months in the pic.She is a lot bigger and has shaped up nicely now.I am very happy about the blue Speculum feathers,it''s just the lacing now.But that's show breeding for you.

Hi MORESDUCKS
I didn't want to get off the Colouring and lacing topic too much.(I like iT) th_clap.gif
I can put a pic up off the young drakes, but there still colouring up going through there ugly stage still(for the untrained eye they don't look the best at this time). But if you still like a pic I can put it up....
I had a look at the young duck's lacing today and it look like she is still colouring up(I may of jumped the gun with her lacing,it look's better now).
The young rouens are around 4 months and are still colouing up.The Rouen duck breed take the longest to colour up out of all duck breeds.
Here is a vid of the parents.if this helps any body of were the lacing come from.I would love to here feed back from other breeds and what do they do for lacing in the breeding pen.....?

IMO i think thats the wrong way to go,,maybe i should say thats the long way to go about it..
you wont know what influence the drake has until you breed with it and grow on the young..
i think you'd be better off obtaining a with a female thats maked as you require and breeding from her..
if you have the desried traits at the start your more likely to reproduce them..

Hi RnBs
You are totally right. It's all ways best to try and start with the best laced duck.It will be easyer to maintain in breeding pen.But at the time when I see one of your mate from the SEQLD waterfowl club. There wasn't many to choosc from,So I pick the one with the bested lacing at the time.
I'm thinking about seeing that breeder way down south as his ducks are lighter in colour then the big N.S.W breeder. All three big breeders from QLD,N.S.W and VIC would be able to help as long as I tell them what I need.
I know I got a long road ahead but it can be dun.Or like you say keep my best drake and get a good laced duck and then have the two line's going,a drake line and a good lace's duck line.
