][/ I am not sure if this duck (two months old) is a cross or thro back from my mallard. It would help if I could upload a photo

Hope this is now right. I wonder what breed came from my mallard duck.

The dark one is a mystery her mum is light coloured ( and dad well I always thought ,bought my first boy as a mallard but now wonder could he be a welsh harlequin.)

Looks like a cross yes but do you have a picture of the parents? I think its mallard/campbell

No luck in it, at nine months he (the Campbell) was more than capable and willing/eager to mate.
Just because you have 2 males in a pen does not mean that they will stick to thier own variety, crossbreds are always a common result.
It is also possible for a female to lay a mixed clutch with eggs sired by either male, resulting in purebred and crossbred ducklings with a common dam but completely different sires.
Reminds me of someone who left a young male in a pen with his mother, he was convinced they would not mate until she laid and hatched youngsters.
We are in control of the breeding programme and must provide suitable accomodations to keep breeds and varieties seperate otherwise nature will takes it's course and a mixed bag will result.

would the Darker one be male or female? I know the lighter one is mallard (primary) male.

The older original mallard family . These are the older dominant ones I bought as mallards first.

Yes that`s my dam in the photo. They love it. So, you think Dark one is Male ? Ok, .....so obviously not mallard. Do you think it`s Campbell or 1/2 cross mallard x campbell ? Darn, Don`t need any more males. Anyone want some nice pets?
