What time of year do geese begin to sit on eggs. I have one that I think want to do the chucky thing but its the middle of winter and I am thinking she is crazy as I thought is was some time in spring or summer

Now to the end of the year mine usually go in august to dec but have had goslings in jan

yes...now onwards they will start to lay, and then sit when and if the decide too
we ussually dont see our first eggs until 2nd week July and 9 times out of 10 its the yearling birds that get the season started first.
this year they're slightly ahead from previous as we've just set the first round of china brown eggs in the bator this morning.
reports from other breeders also indicate a slightly earlier start to the season than normal.
you'll know your female is getting close when you see the gander mating,,ganders ussually dont mate unless the female is ready, and as a ruff giude mating can start about 4 weeks before the goose lays her first eggs
there are other pyshical and behavioral signs that will tell you she's getting really close too
after studying the birds behavoir for some years now we can predict within a 2-3day window when each bird will lay her first eggs
they then lay at approx 36 hour intervals, some birds will miss an egg durring the laying period and you may go acouple of days without a fresh egg in the nest, but once they lay the egg thats out of squence the next should come in approx 36 hours.
here's how a week might look

mon........egg layed at 6am
tues.......egg at 6pm...you probably wont collect or see this egg until wed morning,,so it looks like shes missed tuesdays egg, but she hasn't
wed........no egg layed
thurs......egg at 6am
fri..........egg at 6pm...and like tuesdays egg you dont see it until the next day

That is really good info I wondered what the gap was between eggs as with mine it seemed erratic but makes more sense now reading your info. Thank you and sorry to butt in
