Hi there, looking at expanding my flock of muscovies and I am looking at the Barred Muscovy I have been looking at the feather site as I can't find info here in australia so I was hoping you guys could give me some info on the barreds and best breeding practices ecad...

http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/Duck ... Teens.JPEG
http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/Duck ... obies.html

If I was to buy them and breed them together do all the ducklings come out barred?

Cheers
Tod

Barring occurs mostly in the bronzes in Australia. Not all the babies will be barred and they will lose the barring once they get to about 6 months of age and usually reappears in the females about 2+ years of age.But never as good as they were when young.

oh and barring is a recessive gene, so both parents need to carry it to get barred offspring, and macl57 is right, in an adult bird it can be hidden then pop out next moult. the best way to make sure you have it is to buy barred ducklings.

no, as macl57 said, it comes back in in different moults but never looks as pronounced as it does in young birds.
