I have a friend that has what is currently called 'call ducks' now several people I have spoken with feel that these ducks are wrongly named and the true name is 'Decoy Duck' their history and mod of inherent breeding shows this to be their true and first name when the Decoy Duck first bred in the netherlands now I have never kept, bred or owned any of the previously known as 'call ducks' to give you full genetics ect.., but everything I don't know states Decoy Ducks is the true and correct name. I feel the name should be changed back ASAP and all breeders should now use the correct name affective immediately.

I will send another email to an expert on tsetse flies Mr Adetookunboo G Mensah of Africa I will let you know what he says about the genetics. I sent one already about cinnamon guinea fowl viewtopic.php?f=5&t=28435&start=70

What do you think.

Mods I sent you a PM ;)

Got your message ;)

You raise an interesting discussion that may warrant further investigation and more study but the original name as you say is decoy or coy duck now the name call only relates to their "call" so not an accurate description of the breed. Perhaps the bantam mallard is a better more apt description. It is sad we see the cross stock palmed off as pure here in Australia

Yes also got your message and ok.

You could put forward the name change for the next APS in 20-25 years form now and I think you would get a lot of support from breeders of coy ducks not that I also feel there are any good quality left in Australia

I have always hated the name call ducks and for 10 years I have called them bantam mallards which is how they were bred. I do like the original name of decoy thats much better than call
