hi all.

i'm wondering if anyone has proven lavender muscovy in australia. i've been looking for a while and have seen silver, blues or fumes called lavender. have even bought a "lavender" thats turned out silver, but havent found anyone that has lavender and has tested it out with breeding to prove it. considering that lavender is in the standards now it'd be nice to know that they exist here :-D

lavender is a recessive gene. so if a lavender bird is mated to a black bird not carrying the lavender gene you would get 100% black offspring. mating those black offspring together would give you black and lavender offspring proving that it was actually a lavender bird.

cheers,

Ian

Thats correct the splits back to lavender should produce 50% lavender and I have seen what was referred to as lavender but I think more self blue than lavender.

The lavender is darker or at least should be. The 2 picts I think show the shade difference but its not a massive difference

I to have heard of breeders with the lavenders but not seen them first hand but I have no doubt they would exist as its not that difficult to produce

it seems to be the same old thing as chocolate, same answers, "yep they are around" but there's no proof! no one is willing to say "yes, i have them and they breed genetically true, here's some photo's"

my thought is that if the gene isnt in the country its mighty hard to produce your own gene mutation.

Could be they are worried about having them stolen? I have friends that have rare fowls but will never tell anyone they do its just the way it is with fowl theft on the rise
