I was at the auction and it was 2 bidders that I saw and I was stunned when it got to $1000 could not believe when it ended at $3300 I have never seen such crazy bidding. I am now buying geese and the reserves will be $1000 minimum. My friends are going to do the same to cash in on this

its good to get a high price for your birds at auction, but unrealistic prices like that may only harm the local auctions.
poultry auctions are a much needed part of backyard breeding.

I agree less people will go in turn less sellers and the over inflated prices will crash not good to sellers or those that paid way too much.

Just being a debate leader here =
And on the down side = prices that are too low = not giving the real worth of fowl (NOT saying these geese were worth that much as I am NOT – and can’t really comment in that regard as I don’t know the background work that lead up to them)

Prices that are too low = more buyers but less sellers as to undervalue your birds is not a wise thing to do. And most sellers want at least a fair price for their hard work.

with decent birds going to auction, the sellers best interest is to set a reserve price.
if an auction house wont take birds set with reserves, the seller does not have to put them up for auction.
auctions do work for both parties if run correctly.
a good auctioneer with knowledge of what he is selling will get the fairest price.
auctions do get peoples blood flowing and with this their wallets open wider than other
circumstances would permit.
