Well I've gone and done it. I've started my duck collection. I was going to wait and get some Cayugas but I had so many broody Hens what else could I do. I put half a dozen Swedish Blue duck eggs under one of the broodys. 28 days later. 4 Adorable ducklings and a Mum that doesn't seem to notice they are 'special'. Attachment: ducks2.jpg [ 97.68 KiB | Viewed 5755 times ] A couple of weeks later; Attachment: mum with ducks.jpg [ 88.6 KiB | Viewed 5754 times ] I thought chickens grew quick. Wow ducks grow like crazy. Video of the little tackers here. Feel free to tell me if I have boys or girls. Still too soon to tell I think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KS-KPXz0eBA cheers, Jo |

Thanks guys. I'm already a chicken addict/crazy and these guys are growing on me. LOL Pic of the not so little guys with their Mum. They've got a few feathers coming in. Mum on the other hand is moulting and looking quite shabby. Attachment: Mum & the kids.jpg [ 79.94 KiB | Viewed 5668 times ] I noticed 3 of them have a pale tip on the end of their bill. Does this mean anything? |

Hello and welcome to the world of duck lovers. I originally hated ducks because of the mess they made. I did a rescue through RSPCA of a duck abandoned by the previous owner when they did a runner and left her in a fenced area of grass and green putrid water. If it wasn't for the property owner's son finding her it would have been a doubtful existence. I called her daisy and then along came Donald and then three more ducks. I have had over a hundred ducks now in my time. I only have 23 now. SO...having ducks IS VERY VERY addictive. So enjoy your ducks and I am positive that you will get more. The white tip on the beak will go as it is from chipping at the egg to get out. |

johs, Does mum go for a paddle too? Would a duck who hatches chook eggs take her chicks to the water to teach them to swim? |
