I had a visitor to my dam today. It was a duck/drake? of very dark brown with a lighter stripe or two along side of face. The beak was a bit lighter and longish. It had a distinctive quark not too loud. Very nice looking bird. I couldn't find it in my bird book. It was about the size of my little KC cross girl. Bigger than the normal wild ducks I get all the time. I have never seen it before and I hope it returns. I have had a pair of Grebes for a month or two but not for the last couple of days. |

I think it sounds like a native black duck |

It's a shame it hasn't been back. Are they migrating at the moment? |

What a shame, it was a good size bird too. Would have liked to see it stick around. |
