They have only bred the once in 2006, the female laid 8 eggs and hatched 8 young, all of which survived. One pair of juveniles has been maintained in the large wetland aviary for display, the old pair are still on display in another aviary, but have not had a nest box since 2006 as they are not on the breeding plan.

Call me Matt, lol. Pretty stupid name now that i look back on it!
They may be on the plan again in the future but the region goes through changes from time to time and a major problem is holding spaces, if there is no room for young in the region they cannot breed.

If I find abandoned whistling duck duckling and raise them do I need to get some type of permission to keep them forever or because I raised them I can just keep them because they cannot be let go into the wild because they would die

Hi Ychris and welcome to the forum.

I think you will find that you will need to apply for a permit to legally be allowed to keep them but the regulations vary in each state. You will probably need to call the wildlife licensing department in your state/territory. Otherwise, the local wildlife rehabilitation orgabnisation should be able to help you.
