Post subject:  Flat pack chicken coops?

Hello, APF members,

What is the general concensus on flat pack chicken coops that can be purchased on the internet? Are they safe? Are they value for money? Are they worth buying? Should they be avoided at all costs by the unsuspecting chookie n00b?

If so, where would be the best place to purchase a chicken coop, nesting box etc if you are not handy with woodwork?

I would appreciate your opinions and feed back on the subject.

I've had mine for five years, now, and it's still going strong. Mine's Chinese fir, ordered from eBay for around $200. Once or twice a year I paint it with sump oil to protect it and keep mites down, and it's great. You couldn't make one for the price they sell them for.

I would answer yes to all your questions. I have 3 all purchased over the internet and all were easy to put together and look great, my advice is go for it!

Me & my wife are planning to get one soon, it's one of the larger ones approximately 3m x 1.5m & we're hoping it'll be big enough for 1/2 dozen austalorp bantams.
