I'm not a neat freak I swear. Just doesn't look very nice. I have no problem with the chook poo all over the yard. :-?

17! Don't tell my council. I'm only allowed 12 and Bazza the rooster. A couple of them are just waiting for a friend to build a bigger chicken coop. :-D

Even better close up b-m.

If you want more eggs more often then the australorp is the go I think and with mine I don't get the big gaps of no eggs and also they are a sweet hen to have around kids and pets

Getting a bit off topic but.... Backyard Zoo, do you find the Australorps go broody? I've been researching which breed to get and am very tempted by them but have been a bit put off by some people saying they can be inclined to broodiness (which I don't want). Any views would be most appreciated.

Oh, no  , I started reading 'The Contented Chook' and realised that my coop will be too warm in summer.
Great for winter and summer during the day (I can open the big door), but will have to open one side and just screen with wire for summer nights.
I don't want my chooks to cook!

Do you have a hole saw (those jobbies that fit on a drill)? You could drill a bunch of holes in the wooden side and make a cover to go over the holes in autumn / winter. Or maybe use a jigsaw to cut out a panel, and either hinge, or fit a cover.... You probably don't need to worry about it for a couple of months!

The fence is the most pressing worry for now :)
One side is covered in metal sheets, so these will be easy to remove for summer. Will have to get it covered in mesh and make it cosy with metal for winter. Should work well.

20!. I so need to get a word into my local councillors ear! I just can't afford to move to Perth so I can have 20 chooks. So jealous, so jealous.
