fruit trees

Is it a good idea to use fruit trees with particular fleshy fruits prone to fruit fly so the chooks can control and eat the fly? such as pear trees?

If you plant fruit trees prone to fruit fly infestation, then you'll have fruit fly regardless of whether you have chooks or not.

fruit fly reproduce in the soil, after the fruit falls to the ground...it would be wise to use a commercially available fruit fly trap or home made trap( a 600 ml soft drink bottle,with 30 mm of amonium and a tablespoon of sugar), small holes drilled in the side of the bottle about 2 thirds up the bottle.)

if your chooks can get to your fruit wether it be peach,pear, nectarine, plum etc they will smash them..my chooks really
love my figs, they are spoilt.

Fruit doesn't get to the ground at my place. Unfortunately it's the girls eating it not me.

. First cherries and guavas couldn't hold out against high jumping chooks.

I have an orange tree in my coop and if anything falls on the ground they don't touch it so the kids can collect them

I have orange trees and the girls used to hide up in the branches when they were younger.Then they got too big.They never touched the fuit but they sure did love the stink bugs.Also had to put barriers around the root area as they dug down so deeply that they exposed the roots.

All my girls sleep in 2 big orange trees and they fertilize the ground over night
