Hello I am in the throws of building a new much larger coop but I need to knock down the old one first. I have a cat run that I can use for the chooks while the new one goes up but the cat run has a concrete floor now I have been told not to use a concrete floor because of the bumbly foot disease but would having them in the cat run for 4-5 weeks cause them to get the bumbly foot disease of is that something that take a long time to develop?

G,day CoopinWA, I don't think you'll have a problem over such a short duration , but to make doubly sure why don't you throw down some sand and straw to create a softer surface?

I have all concrete floors and cover them with cane mulch to soften the floor but you will have to clean them out regularly especially after rain

Concrete floors are OK if covered with sand , straw, mulch or wood shavings.
Bumble foot is the result of bruising the soles of the feet, this occurs if the fowls are a heavy breed/variety and the perches are to high off the ground.
They land heavily and bruise thier feet, the solution is to only have perches that are low to the ground, around knee height of less.

I agree but only for the heavy breeds if you have breeds like Pekins, Japs, Sebrights then they will be fine on concrete floors. I have all concrete floors in all 15 runs and its now 9 years and no health problems at all
