Or you can grow a lavender or rosemary hedge to hide the wire fence which is what I have done. The chooks love to hide under the plants.

I use wire like a lot of other people. A couple of the girls like to sit on the edge so the wire is getting higher and higher.
I also got some tree rings from Bunnings that protect the root zone for the bigger plants. They are made from recycled tyres and last several years. Available in a couple of sizes and blend in well with my mulch. Good luck. I did loose a few plants that were just too tasty no matter what I tried. I've now given up on growing those. sidesplit.gif

We have companion plants for natural pest contol of lavender, and wormwood planted near the coop which they like to peck at. They love the rosemary and other herbs planted outside the kitchen.

Geraniums and nasturtiums have been especially tasty, seaside daisies, violets, rose petals and camillas have all been a big hit. They are very ambitious at the moment and trying to dig a tunnel to the neighbour's inviting veggie patch. The grass always seems to be greener on the otherside...

The wild birds also eat just about anything even the cacti, so we have just about given up!

We just had to put bird wire around 2 garden beds as the ducks decided they like the taste of my annuals and eat over half of them so just had to re plant the beds and put the wire up

Tomorrow I am going to start work on fencing off my veggie garden with chicken wire, but I was wondering how high I should make the fence? The chicken wire roll I have is only 900mm high and I reckon a chicken could flap their way over that with little fuss.

You could just attach bird netting over the wire or build an enclosure like this one:

Thanks PP :) I just got back from Bunnings (lol, I was there before they even opened) and have a car full of fence building things. I might photo document the process, since I've never done it before, have no idea what I am doing, and quick dry cement will be involved
