Hello I am looking for suggestions on protecting my plants and shrubs from the chickens eating or digging them up. I want to be able to let them out each day for pest control but I am worried they will eat the garden down? What do you people use to protect your gardens?

We've had to put chicken wire around our shrubs and also around any other plants they like to eat,dig around, dust bath in, lay their eggs in and generally lounge around on.

Also, you could make a mobile pen(chicken wire and four fence posts)to contain them in.

I talk to my chooks very nicely and they listen to me; they know where they are allowed to go and where not they are not allowed to go. They know when they are being naughty and run away!

The roses in our garden have never looked better! Our neighbours all fight for their droppings for their gardens and to add to their compost!

Yeh the only way is to use wire around the plants and if you have a lot of plants then wire off the garden

I had to do the same for my annuals as the ducks started pulling them up not eating them just pulling them out of the ground

I like my chickens to be completely free and go where they want so they go to my garden and eat my vegetables. I had to put up 3 foot chicken wire. It looks a bit ugly but works. I am working on making it look nicer - any suggestions?

We make round cylindrical protectors which we put around our plants until they are well and truly established or they are damaging others. It looks a bit ugly for a while, but works. I also put roses bushes of varying sizes around the place and these help a little too. These measures also keep the dogs out too!

That is a great idea, I will try it. I will still not like it being there but I can picture it looking much better.
