Yes you can hire fox traps from most councils and they can advise you on how to dispose of the fox if you catch it

As I am on a farm I shoot foxes, but there were a couple to cunning to get, which were getting the occasional chook which was out at night. I ended up buying 2 rubber jaw foot hold traps and setting them. I caught 2 old foxes and 2 feral cats I did not even know were around and my problems stopped. Unfortunately I left the trap set about half a km from the house and caught our pet cat as well. It did not break his bone or even the skin, but must have been caught soon after I checked it as it had cut off the circulation for a while when I checked it the next day. Due to lack of circulation he spent a couple of days at the vet on antibiotics and has made a full recovery. He would not have needed any treatment if he had only been in it a few hours, but almost a day was to long.

If anyone wants one of these traps I got them from http://www.gettrapped.com/ and had them posted to me. If you have cats check the traps twice a day. You will also have trouble killing a fox any other way then shooting it, so if you can not do that I would not advise getting them. I believe these are the easiest way to get cunning problem foxes.

Thanks for posting this I was looking at those rubber ones but was not sure if they worked and were safe for non predators so good to know thanks
