Those one you could hang from the roof by the looks but what height would you hang them?

That would depend on how old they are - you'll have to adjust it as they get bigger... I'd say about chest high when they are standing up, so they have to drop their head a little to reach it. Just make sure they can reach the bottom in case the water level drops.

Those with more experience will correct me if i'm wrong, but I do that with my food containers so they can't scratch it out, and it works well.

Make sure you hang them high enough so the mice cannot reach it I made that mistake and every night the mice would jump up and soil their food

It is incredible how far the mice can jump vertical so that is a good point to post

Umm... I don't know about jumping... I'd suggest climbing down what you're hanging it from? I wouldn't have thought they'd jump. But yes, you need to try to make sure they can't get into the food. They'll empty it if you're not careful! I now only feed mine in the day, cause the rats are eating too much over night.

Rats and mice are quite good at jumping, they will jump at least a couple of body lengths high. You can hang the feeder or waterer about level with the back/saddle of the smallest bird and they should be able to get their heads over the rim, then just raise it a bit each week as they grow. I make an adjustment and then sit and watch them for a while to see if they can still reach.
