In central Qld they bait for dingos so foxes would also be knocked off in the process but your right it should be a untied effort to eradicate the foxes

most rural councils dont want to spend the money on baiting programs - they would rather leave the problem to the farmers/rate payers
(suburban councils cant bait due to dogs and cats)

a lot of the farmers dont have the time to deal with foxes effectively - it really is a full time job to get the foxes to managable levels - to erradicate them will never happen

to effectively control foxes would mean an Australia wide locking up of all dogs and cats ( and all other animals that eat meat but want to be kept alive) for about 4 weeks then dropping baits across the entire country = then going out and collecting all uneaten baits only to repeat this process in 3-4 months time to get any straggler foxes
wont happen as it is impossible to do = nice to dream about a fox free OZ tho!

[quote="soozorps"]Petite Poulet that is a very good idea - foxes are just too cunning and determined - you really cant give them any opportunity = well done :-D

Thank you, kindly, soozorps, 52.gif

Some people's dogs are worse than foxes, foxes aren't domesticated like dogs, I'm not giving foxes have an excuse to kill chooks, but badly behaved domestic dogs can also cause as much as damage as a fox. The dogs seem to be running in packs or alone, terrorsing, maiming and killing poor innocent chooks in the area. There has been a dog that has recently killed two chooks, badly injured one and left her half dead :( and has tried to attack others. Where are their resonsible owners?

^ dogs yes - they can be as bad as foxes too = someone I know in WA recently lost almost every bird after storms blew in and blew down their fence - lucky to have the few she has left

I can relate to this I had the next door dog dig in to our place and kill 3 of our bantams and they were the best 3 so a letter to the owners had them tie the dog up

Maremma's are good fox protection... as well as fencing property with outwards facing wire so the won't climb up... probably didn't help but I tried... and keep looking for fox traps... they use myna bird traps up here, but if we had foxes they'd probably kill them off

We have had a plague of Myna birds since the bushfires, and workshops on building traps for them, they are a real nuisance. There are lots of foxes too.

One day my own Maremma to guard my chooks with it's lovely long "Wooof, Wooof, Wooof..."
