We had to put the nursery hutch in the chook tractor, as the not so fantastic Mr. Fox struck again yesterday taking 3 of another neighbour's hens :(

We only let ours free range when there is someone home to watch them, even then there are bold foxes in the daylight carrying off poor innocent chookies :(

Ours are locked up all the time too (to keep safe from the dogs as much as the foxes  ) - I have only ever heard of one fox getting close to the house but our dogs chased it away. Our neighbours shoot regulalry and one baits (through LHPA - the old RLPBA) every couple of years when they get too bad and take his goats!

I hadn't heard of the LHPA, being from Victoria, is that a branch of the DPI or something different? Is there a Victorian equivalent does anyone know?

Petite Poulet that is a very good idea - foxes are just too cunning and determined - you really cant give them any opportunity = well done :-D

wicked wings - in VIC you have to be licenced to buy and use baits as you would know - I think you go thru DPI

Karen = what does LHPA and RLPBA stand for (showing my ignorance here  ) = we use the good old .22 and the double barrelled soutions for Mr Foxy Loxy

Hi soozorps,

Well I'm learning.

LHPA is the Livestock Health and Pest Authority http://www.lhpa.org.au/ and the RLPB is it's predecessor the Rural Lands Protection Board, or so I've found out tonight.

Bit hard to use a double barrelled solution in the suburbs. Pity!

Mr. Foxy Lady??? Can't make up his mind? sidesplit.gif

dont think so - well not around us anyway - there are a few farmers that have the necessary licences to buy the baits and they put signs up on their front gates when they are doing it and give everyone in the area a ring to let them know as well

me the .22 and double barrel methods work nicely thank you :-D

and wicked wings = yeah damn shame you cant use them in the burbs!
