gluck.gif with building the enclosure, looking forward to seeing the photos!

Didn't visualise the dimensions of the coop until you put the chooks in it, and put it all into perspective. You did a great job with extending it.

Thanks for the compliments on the Ancona ozmalcome - she's the friendlier of the two so far.

OK PP, here is the (almost) finished enclosure just after dawn this morning:

Just have to:
- touch up the netting support above the door (& roll it up so it looks prettier),
- install another set of water and feeder bowls,
- put up some more clips to close up small gaps in the netting, and
- put in another roost at the front of the enclosure.

The girls have been out twice, they were very funny running and flying around. They only had a short time before sunset and put themselves to bed - I'm hoping I will be able to let them out into the enclosure while I'm at work soon. With the chicken wire on the ground out from the vertical fencing ('C' clipped to the uprights and pegged into the ground) do you think they'll be OK? I want them to have relative freedom during the day - soon it will be dark when I leave for work and dark when I get home - I don't like the thought of them locked up in the tiny run all day....

I got the netting (10m x 5m) and 'smart clips' off eBay from a shop called NetPro - the clips are re-usable (but you need a big set of pliers or multi-grips to close them and another set if you make a mistake to re-open them (which I did of course - started putting the net up around the wrong way - doh). The net and clips were under $60 - postage was under 20.

50m of chicken wire was $70 from a metalwork place (heaps cheaper than the big hardware shop in Canberra), the screen door was $25 from the recycling place at the tip, we had the sleepers, pavers & a couple of bags of concrete lying around the yard and the main posts came from the hardware shop. I think they were about $10 each.

Hopefully this looks OK to you experts - I think it should stop the girls escaping and deter foxes - fingers crossed anyway!

Thank you, kindly 52.gif for taking the time to take the photos and post them.

Looks great Jo a_bravo.gif Well done!!!

Living in a fox infested area myself, may I offer one suggest if it is not too costly, enclose and secure the roof area with chook wire, then nothing can get in from above, foxes can scale high fences :( I read in a book that someone recycled a tea chest putting a piece of colourbond roofing from a recycle yard for a roof as an outdoor shelter for their chooks.

Keep up the good work and I don't forget to post a photo of your first egg!

Thanks guys, I'm happy with how it's worked out. I'm hoping to get another two or three girls, but I think the house will be at capacity with five standards - I don't want them to be unhappy!

[smilie=welcome.gif] Bayley,

It depends what you are looking for and how much you want to spend but this company is based in SA.

http://www.royalrooster.com.au/index.php

Also have a look in Trading Post, Gumtree and many people build and sell them locally, ebay(you can pick up from their warehouse).

Bunnings and large pet shop chains also sell flat pack coops though they are more expensive.
