How well do the fox traps work?

I have been told different stories on them working and not working well so I hesitate to buy one just yet

If you can give some advice on them and the best bait I would appreciate that

They work very well I caught my third fox last night.

That is with rubber jawed leg hold traps, not cage traps. I built a cage trap and have only caught one feral cat in it, never a fox. Foxes are to cunning and very hard to catch in cages.

I set my traps about 200m from the yards to avoid catching our pet cats and dogs. The traps need to be well staked down and set bellow ground level. I cover the pan with a piece of very old plastic to stop dirt getting under it. I then fill around the jaws solidly before sifting loose soil over the whole trap. For bait I usually use an excess rooster. I usually dig a hole and put the rooster in it and put a log over the top. I set it up so the fox has to come from the side the trap is on.

Soft jaw leg holds are very good for releasing other species unharmed. I have also caught my cat, a sheep and a Wedgtail eagle, by one toe. The jaws dont break the skin and as long as it is checked regularly any bi-catch can be released unharmed.

This is a great help as my trap has never worked so I will try some of your tricks of the trade and see if that works
