Just had to share my excitement.

I'm getting a new coop built at Easter & I'm so excited I just had to tell someone who doesn't think I'm chook obsessed.

Everyone I talk to thinks I'm chook crazy. But this is just exciting stuff.

I will try and post a photo of the set up we have at the moment, which I feel is a dogs breakfast set up & then post some day by days photos as the new one gets built.

The set up we have at the moment was always considered to be temporary, but a couple of weeks turned into 1 month & then 1 month turned into 2 & now we're into the 4th month of the year!

[smilie=a_withstupid.gif] Oooo, Ooooo. Ooooo, Ooooo!!!

Who really cares if you are chook crazy or chook obsessed??? I mean you don't have excessive hens and or roosters that will peeve your neighbours??? As long as you are HAPPY!!! Does it really matter to any one else???

Chooks are much nicer than many human beings and much more intelligent, they love you unconditionally and make you feel better!

Keep on chookin' 52.gif

Oh Cool,so we can both post our pictures of our new coops. Your babies deserve something exciting after all the glum they've been through.

. Keep on Chookin' that's Gold! sidesplit.gif

Yeah, I agree. They make me happy & giggle at their antics & feel warm & fuzzy when they run to me every time they see me. Neighbours haven't complained yet, but I haven't done anything wrong so they have no grounds to winge.

I just have to work out how to get the pixels on a lower resolution so I can post them up. Any tips on what you do PP? Do you put your camera on a lower Mb before taking the photo's of the Lavendaer gang or Lady Frances?

I use the maximum amount of mega pixels on the camera, it has a better grain quality, then I upload them, then I use an easy photo editing program such as GIMP to scale the image and save.

Good luck and don't forget to post photos of your new coop and your girls!

What a great Easter present, much better than chocolate ;)

Just borrowed a book from the library "Backyard Chickens Guide to Coops and Tractors" it has some gorgeous coops in it.

Most definitely. I actually prefer the candy eggs, but they are really bad for my teeth (as well as my butt!).

I have posted some photos of the current situation (like I said earlier; bit of a dogs breakfast), but this soon all will be changed. th_clap.gif[img]

The Tarp over the hen house and the courtyard was because of recent rain and had to shelter the girls so they could still be out in the courtyard when it was raining and so they didn't get wet during the night, as the the sides of the Hen House are open. Didn't want the girls getting a chill.

Thanks for the GIMP tip PP. Just downloaded it and it works fantastic. Was a bit worried about putting the word "GIMP" in Google; wasn't sure what was going to pop up!!! LOL

Sounds like BFLF was right!

Don't forget to take pictures all. I am going to try and do a day by day, so you can all see progress.

So excited. Got all the materials sitting here. Now just gotta find a whip and learn how to crack it!!!

I got inspired today to start...... BUT there came a problem.... when i opened the flat pack a few of the main parts were broken.. and when i say broken i mean broken beyond repair. wood structure parts were actually broken in half... :!: not impressed... so i have to send it back.... i'm requesting a refund instead of a replacement....

BECAUSE............ when i went looking for a bit of wood to see if i had one that could fit to fix the flat pack (stored under the house long bits and pieces) i found heaps of timber sleepers. yeeehaaaa !

I'm going to build my own new coop. i also found corrugated iron and chicken wire.... hahaha. i'm all set !

well i'm going to just raise the height of the current pen (so i dont have to duck down at all) and make a bigger nesting box area. i'm going to enclose the whole pen so that i don't have to lock them in the coop at night. they can put themselves to bed. i'll just have to put them back in the pen after they finished free ranging.

I have no idea how to use power tools, except for the drills.... so this will be a huge challenge. i'm going to TRY and not spend ANY money and see if i can do it all by recycled and free stuff...and of course the timber and metal sheets under my house..... wish me luck!!

I cant wait to see the others pic's when they are done... i'll show mine too when i am finished in a week or so. i'll give myself a week time limit to be finished...haha.

don't expect anything great though.... haha. just lucky i don't have predators or wild animals in the city that will break in to my pen, because then my crappy building skills will be a waste of time with no chickens left. worst you get here is a cat in the yard... but they aren't interested in chickens as there is a lot more easily accessed open chicken pens and rabbit cages around this area that have not been touched. so i think i am safe. as long as the chickens cant get out and wander away or on the road if i am at work or something.....

Let the building begin...
