Most people call mine the Taj Mahal. The old one was a converted Desk, when I only had three girls.

The new one is a great improvement but was a project to build. Needless to say it is esential now I have my quota, maybe a couple of extra.

Hi, johs,

Your Taj Mahal is very impressive :-D , lucky chooks! Barry and his harem are indeed living in a chook palace fit for kings!

Is the old run attached to the Taj? Do you have anymore photos?

Borrowed a great book from the library Backyard Chickens Guide To Coops and Tractors Edited by David Thiel.

Wish I had the skills and power tools to build a proper not shanty Chook Town in my back yard! Don't think the neighbour's would appreciate more chook structures (and more chooks) popping up our backyard though :(

Thanks HH.

Yeah I added a bit extra to the old run at the same time as the new coop was built. The old coop (desk) is now in use as a brooder on the back porch. Got to love recycling.
Old run was 5m by 3m (the green painted bit). The new one is that plus an L shaped bit that wraps around the new coop. I have a couple more photos. I'll do a plan and post in another topic. :-D There are some other photos in another topic already too. Sadly I want to make changes already. hide:

I'm not bad with tools (by product of a builder Dad) but I don't have access to good ones all the time.

Thanks, johs,

Look forward to seeing the your new topic.

Was its originally called the Chook Hilton?

If you can borrow a copy of More Chook Wisdom from the library they have chook run/garden design layouts in it with the website of the landscape gardeners who contributed that particular feature in the book.

hahaha, i use to walk and play in the chook pen with no shoes on when i was a little kid. i remember it well... and those chickens were most defiantly not kept in cleanliness standards like mine are kept these days. i wouldn't do it now. but i remember it was nothing when i was a kid. if poop stuck to your foot you just wiped your foot along the grass when you got out... hahaha, wasn't a problem. :P
