I have just bought a second hand A frame coop. Is there anything I should do (apart from give it a good clean out) to prepare it for my boys. It has a wooden shell and marine ply nesting box floor. Do I need to decontaminate it some how?

You could possibly invest in an avian disinfectant to give the coop a thorough clean out, kill any mites, or bacteria lurking.

Good luck! I am sure your boys will be happy :-D

Mix up a lime wash and slap it on.

errrmmm.. is it big enough for roosts?
roosters will fight over the highest spot, so for 2 or more roosters, keep the roosts equal.. thats all I can say..

Hi, Philip wave.gif ,

Chickababe's boys have grown up together, brothers, I should know they are Wheezy and Muffy. They get on really well together, sort of inseparable, so close is their bond, they rarely fought or sparred and Wheezy would always find tasty morsels when free ranging and feed Muffy.

are chickababe's roosters wheezy and muffy or were you using them as an example?

sorry,

Hi, Philip wave.gif ,

Chickababe and ILoveMyChickies adopted Wheezy and Muffy. Most of my feathered offspring went to Black Saturday bushfire families because my original trio were donated by Rotary after the bushfires to make me feel better.

Don't think so Philip, I don't want the boys breeding with their mother, it's just NOT RIGHT th_Noooo.gif Yes, I have read about line breeding, but it's just NOT RIGHT the boys with their mother th_Noooo.gif

Maybe buying some fertile eggs if my girls go broody.
