what is best to use on the bottom

Hi guys I need you wisdom on what is best to use on the bottom of the nest boxes for my ducks

The ducks are mallard and indian runners

I have tried hay and leucin but they eat it [smilie=a_doh.gif]

Someone suggested fake turf but would they eat that and being plastic would it hurt them?

Saw dust is good or the wood shavings you can buy from the pet shops pre packed. My friend has used the cane leaves but you do get lots of stork with it so no so comfortable for the hens

You can also buy the organic sugar cane mulch in bales from Bunnings, Kmart or your local nursery.

its cheap and usually they don't eat lots of it if at all

The sugarcane is idea the chooks never try to eat it and its not scratched out of the boxes like the straw or hay was

Just watch out if you use the pine shavings some chicks will eat it as I have just found out and it can kill them I have decided to use old carpet for the floor and maybe later out in the shavings when they are older and wont eat it

So can goslings and ducks so go with news paper for the first 6 -8 weeks and play it safe people

Personally I would do that or carpet for any chick its not worth loosing them over
