Hi All
Well my chooks seem to like to spread their feed all over the ground. It is an old self feeder and the pvc invention did not seem to fair any better. Are there any good self feeders out there that keep the rain out and the grain in the self feeder? conf665

That looks like the grandpa style feeder advertised in alot of magazines these days, it's designed to make the chook stand on a pedal style part to make it open when they step off it closes.

My husband made me one with a length of PVC where he drilled two holes near the base, capped the top with a screw on cap and you fill from the top, the feed does't come out unless they peck at the holes in the base.

That's a great idea. How big are the holes?

Nup not hard just put some pellets on the step plate and on the lid that will entice them to step up

I have 3 of those auto feeders and the hens all use them and no more mouse poo in their food. Just 1 point to make make sure you don't have chicks in the coop or you will have to give them a separate container for food of they will not get any food
