Is it true you should not feed green sorghum as its poisonous to animals?

Sorghum foliage can cause poisoning in cattle. It can contain excessive amounts of prussic acid (cyanide) especially in younger stages of growth. It can also contain excessive amounts of nitrates in certain conditions.
My guess is that chooks would not eat enough of it to cause any problems. The leaves are fairly coarse and probably wouldn't be very good green feed for poultry anyway.
I have some growing here and it looks like a smaller version of a maize plant.
