Hello, I was hoping to get some information for the most convenient way to treat poulty mite. I have about 30 hens and I can't seem to keep the mites at bay. I have sprayed their coup and dusted the birds but they seem to come back. The dusting powder is really hard to use and I recently tried frontline, which was an expensive options. Any ideas? Thank you

Its a case of breaking the cycle of them so maybe you need to do them repeatedly for a month or 2 and the coop they are a bit like fleas in the cycle

Yes mites can be like worms you have to re-treat them a short time later if you do the hen house and the chickens twice it should get rid of them

all the above is essential
you can also White Wash the pens nest boxes perches etc = link for recipe below
white washing helps kill off the little beasties that hide in cracks and crevices and only come out to annoy the birds at night – gives a nice clean white appearance to the wood as well

Thanks everyone. The whitewashing is an interesting approach. I may do that. I just retreated the inside with a spray and I may spray with teatree in between times. Thanks again.

I read a tip for making it easier to use Pestene or other dusting powders - cut the leg off an old pair of tights and tie a knot above the foot, so you can use it like an old-fashioned powder puff. I haven't tried it myself yet, but it does sound like it would make it a bit easier to apply.
