We had a fox at first light this morning, Frances was cackling away to alert us. Her mansion is fox proof with wire attached to the base. This is the Aframe in which the new babies reside, they sleep in a small hutch which they will grow out of very soon as Gertie is rather a BIG girl. Any advice on fortifying the Aframe and weather proofing it is appreciated. Also what is the best way to keep them safe at night when they grow out of the hutch> Thank you, kindly in advance.

If you wire the floor the foxes can't get in, also I think the shelter is a little small but you could use a tarp in bad weather to help |

Thank you, kindly Bill, The hutch is only temporary, just big enough for them to sleep in for the night at the moment and keep them warm and safe. |

I will have a think about it PP as your Mum and I tried to lift it up a little to slip some wire underneath, but it was extremely heavy and I couldn't get it to budge. It may be best to construct an inner area at the end with a floor and a door so that the girlies are fox proof. I can do something for you. I think a sheet of laserlight on both sides of the A frame will also assist with weather protection. It would need some sort of capping on the top. My hubby will know what to do on the top. I will ask him when I get the chance |

Thank you, kindly Chickababe, Your are very clever Mum bought a very large tarp today and has covered the Aframe as it is very stormy outside, so the babies are dry snug and warm. Thank you, kindly for all your help |

I would not use laserlight sheeting they will make it very hot in summer just use a tarp over it for winter then remove it for summer Raf |

ChickenPox wrote: Look forward to the picts of your new babies out in the new a frame when they are ready The Aframe is yet to be fortified, we have a tarp as a roof protecting Misty & Gertie from the elements, as the weather has been quite wild and they sleep in a hutch at night at the moment. There as so many foxes at the moment Maybe it is more economical to buy another coop? You can never have enough chookie accommodation!
