I am worried about that what should I cover it with.

The last flock didn't seem to worry about it.

It is called "bumblefoot" and I think bumblefoot is caused by a cut or injury to the chook's foot pad which becomes infected.

LooLoo

We buy playground sand from Bunnings it cost $6.95 a bag and non toxic pet friendly wood shavings from the local stock feed.

Some questions about the perches

I have had them built they are at 90 45 and 30 cms

going to wrap the 40 by 40 poles in rubber to proctect their feet and legs.

would the metal poles be safe to use

What clever chookies instead of jumping from perch to perch they are trying to walk up the angled pipes to reach the second perch ( they haven't found out about the highest one yet).

As well I do think they are too young for the highest perch
