My girls are always going broody.
I give the chicks the starter food and put some grain up higher for mum. I use a parrot water bowl and hang it on the wire for her.
The starter I put a little bit off the ground so that she will not scratch it all out.
Even when she gets the starter she drops it for the chicks.
I have no issue with her eggs as she doesn't lay for about a month anyway.
As suggested, the medication in starter is minimal for a grown hen.
Don't worry too much.

Hello Doolan,
I also give my poultry (chooks, ducks & geese) greens (and fruit if available) every night and a little in the morning as I don't have any grass in the run any more. The chooks destroyed it all over time. I also have a bag of chaff for emergencies.
In the winter I mix mill run (bran & pollard mixed) with warm water and cooked scraps.

I mix a little layer grain in with the chick starter so mum has some normal food and it limits how much of the starter she eats

My hens don't start laying again until many weeks after the chicks are gone so never a problem here
