Post subject:  Help needed to work out suitability for housing 2-3 bantams

Hi, this is my first post.

We are considering getting 2-3 bantams to live in our well secured and enclosed back garden. They would be free range during the day, and then locked up each night.

We have a rabbit hutch that we thought we would use. It will need some customisation to suit.

It is about 1200 high, 900 deep and 2000mm wide

I wanted to find out if it would be large enough (we want our chickens to be comfortable and happy, or we will not get them)

I hope some knowledgeable people on this forum can give me some guidance, as to if it will be suitable and if so, what things i should do to make it more suitable for chooks.

Thanks in advance.

That would be great. A couple of nesting boxes up top and a perch for roosting.

Update.

We now have two Pekins, one Australorp, and one Isa Brown.

I have built two nesting boxes up stairs and two downstairs on the LHS of our coop. I have put in roosting bars across the right hand side about 300mm off the ground.

I have made an outside area of about 8m2 where they roam around in during the day, with an old clamshell for dirt bathing.

Still some more changes to make, and some more building to the outdoor area.

I am finding that they are sleeping in the nesting boxes rather than the roosting bars though. How do i change this?

Wondering if they are a bit too exposed for night time on the roosting bars, and considering blocking out some of the light and draft coming in on this side.

I will post up some pics over the weekend.

Are you letting them out every day and all day?
