Min 22% I was told for good production and healthy hens

30% was ideal but hard to find unless you use multi products

Yes Raf I have been told the same from breeders, mine are on about 22% but I do have to add to the feed to get it to that, the layer feed is only 16.5% by itself. I also make sure that the feed also has 'animal protein' sources, the cheep stuff is just plant protein from soymeal, wheat etc and they can become deficient if only fed that. So as well as adding animal protein I make sure they free range everyday, so they can forage for bugs and insects cluck.!.

My local feed store sells Laucke meat meal in 20 kilogram bags for about $32. There is no analysis shown on the bag but meat meal is generally in the vicinity of 50% protein.
I feed it ad lib and let the individual birds decide how much protein they need.

Do they just eat the meat meal or do you mix it with something else?

Most people mix the meat meal in with with a mash but poultry will eat it just as it comes out of the bag.
I feed it by itself because I use the choice feeding system and find that the consumption varies quite a lot according to age, state of lay, what free range food is available etc.
Indian Game growers really hoe into it.
