Hey Dog I read this on the internet

Swill is defined as food (or food scraps) that contains animal matter, or vegetable waste that has been contaminated by animal matter (termed animal-contaminated matter). Animal matter is defined as any meat or meat product and any illegally imported dairy products. It also includes chicken meat. Swill cannot be fed to livestock, including pigs, poultry or ruminants. Dogs and cats are not considered livestock.

Thanks Cackles.
I think that may be something from UK where they brought in a lot of rules after having outbreaks of foot and mouth disease and mad cow disease.
Meat products are in a lot of Australian poultry feeds and I don't think that there are any biosecurity concerns here about feeding meat to poultry. As far as I can see the rules in the UK are meant to prevent meat products in poultry feeds being accidentally ingested by ruminants or pigs that are susceptible to the above diseases.

Apologies Cackles your post was close to the mark.
Having had a closer look at this it seems there is a law in Queensland banning feeding of meat or any food that has been in contact with meat. There are exceptions for properly manufactured meat meal etc. Victoria is in the process of bringing in similar laws but I have not looked at the wording. Quite likely other states have or will bring in similar laws.
This will mean that it will be illegal to feed your poultry any table scraps etc. containing meat or that have been in contact with meat. The common practice of feeding butchers "bandsaw dust" to chooks will also be illegal under these laws.
The reason for these laws is to protect against the spread of any nasty livestock diseases that may enter Australia.

I don't think so. I think it is about protecting cattle, sheep and pigs from diseases such as foot and mouth disease, mad cow disease etc. by making sure that they don't eat meat contaminated feed.
