Mine went back to their cage for the first few weeks after I first let them out then they discovered a tree not far from the cage and that was that never went back to their cage again |

Was hoping it would be a permanent thing, especially as last night when I shut them away (let them out for an hour to free-range after locking the dogs inside) I saw two large owls in a tree just adjacent to their cage. Not sure if the owls would take a guinea as they're quite large birds, but wouldn't like to risk it. Anyway for now they're permanently in their cage with just an hour late afternoon for free-ranging (until I can hopefully retrain the dogs to leave the birds alone), so with only an hour outside the cage each day I'm hoping they will keep going back into it. Actually I may yet sell them on, as if I can't get the dogs to leave them alone then I don't want to risk another death - and they're the only birds that leave the chookie yard. |
