Hi to all guinea breeders
I have just started with incubator hatching guineas locking them down at 25 days and a humidity of 80%
It seams that every hatch of 20 -25 there are maybe 4 or 5 that struggle to get out after pipping
They are really tough little buggers as they get out of the shell with a little help and do very well chickens on the other hand wouldnt survive that sort of treatment
Cheers Ray

Are they the last 4 or 5 to hatch or close to the last?

Dont know if they pipped early or late but if I dont help them out they fail and die in the shell

I find if I hatch 30 - 40 eggs the last lot to hatch are very wet from the near on 110% humidity caused by the other keets and that hinders them hatching clean. I just hatched 16 cinnamon keets and the last 3 I helped and they were wet more so than normal and that makes them very sticky to the shell

I find the last few are probably more dry then wet maybe my humidity of 70 - 80% is not enough
Its not realy a problem I dont mind haveing to help a few but I am surprised how tough they are
Cheers Ray

Could also be a combination of low humidity - temp to low or high and diet, what was the hatching temp?

Temp 37.3 and diet is chook layer mash but they are free range as well (most of the keets hatch without problems)
Cheers Ray

A good temp at hatch is 39 or around 103 fahrenheit with 80-85% humidity just remember the temp drops with more keets hatch so that affect the latter hatchings with keets still in the bator. Ray what % of hatch are you getting?

The diets ok but do you give them any greens and you could try some whole grains or even protein pellets they are even better

Dont dont really know percentages but maybe 75% diet should be ok they free range 24/7 only getting 2 eggs a day so setting 20 or so every 10 days
I need to increase my numbers I have 4 new ones locked up untill maybe end of Feb before I let them out with the main flock of 12 hope they stick around
Undergoing a very steep learning curve with these Guineas
Cheers Ray
